Dry versus dehydrated skin.

DRY VERSUS DEHYDRATED SKIN.

I get a lot of messages asking for help with both dry or dehydrated skin and it’s important to know that they’re not the same thing, as is commonly believed.

Dry skin is a skin TYPE thats lacking in oil and is the result of genes that don’t produce enough sebum which causes rough, dry or flaky skin.

Dehydrated skin a skin CONDITION that is lacking in water and is the result of external factors such as environment and diet and it will look dull and feel tight when properly moisturised.

If you’re unsure which one you suffer from, try this simple test. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and if an hour later there is no moisture, you have true dry skin. If your cheeks feel tight and itchy you have dehydrated skin.

To treat dry skin use a natural, gentle cleanser without sulphates, silicones, parabens or fragrances. Any of the french pharmacy brands like @avene_uki @biodermaie @uriage would be ideal as well as @ceraveuki

and @aveenouk .Use squalane or aloe moisturising ingredients and an oil at night.

For dehydrated skin use serums containing hyaluronic acid (ones containing both low and high weight molecular hyaluronic acid like @holosskincare are best)as they lock in moisture and then seal it with an oil based moisturiser. Avoid mineral oils, alcohol and surfactants in your skincare products. Drink water, eat water rich foods and avoid excess alcohol and caffeine. A quick way to rectify dehydrated skin is with a facial spritz as the molecules are smallest so can penetrate deepest. @holosskincare pre & probiotic spritz is ideal as it protects and instantly calms skin too.

Hope this clarifies the issue and is of help to any of you who were confused as to which one you suffer from!
