The eyes are the first area to show signs of age, due to being so expressive, the skin here being one of the thinnest on the body, containing less collagen & elastin & rapidly evaporating moisture levels. As if that wasn’t enough, eyes also become smaller & less defined as we age and also sag and become hooded!
This makes applying eye make a challenge as A) they’re not as smooth anymore and B) it’s a challenge to see what we’re doing due to deteriorating eyesight!
Thankfully there’s plenty of optical illusions to make eyes appear fresher & younger!
✅ Using a neutral eyeshadow as a base first evens out the skin tone of the eyelids which tend to darken & redden as we age. This also helps create a a velvety smooth even base for shadow.
✅ Avoid too much shimmer as it can draw attention to wrinkly, saggy or crepy areas & it also accentuates dryness.
✅ Use highlighter under the brow to give the illusion of lifted eyes and in the inner corners to brighten.
✅ As with most make up, less is more as we age so avoid heavy eye make up as it can make you appear older!
✅ In general it’s more youth enhancing to use light neutral colours on the lid, as they open up the eyes, rather than make them recede like dark colours do.
✅ Using skin tone neutral coloured eye shadow colours can therefore make your eyes appear younger and this sweet apricot palette from @carterbeautycosmetics is the perfect nude eyeshadow palette.
