How to layer your skincare products.

As question I’m getting asked a lot, due to a lot of you having more time for your skincare regimes, is how to layer skincare products, so today’s post is dedicated to this very important subject.

The skins function is to act as a barrier to the elements, it’s not designed to allow penetration of foreign objects into the skin.

So, with this in mind it follows that the thicker the product, the more it sits on the surface and doesn’t penetrate as it can’t get past the protective layer.

As a result, thick moisturisers cannot physically change the function of the skin, they simply seal in every ingredients applied beforehand or protect from further damage if they contain SPF. They will hydrate but they cannot target the area where the damage is.

Damaged layers are located deeper within the skin and this is where serums come into play as they have a thinner formulation & smaller molecules which enables their active ingredients to penetrate deep down into the skin to create real visible changes. Serums are packed full of highly concentrated ingredients, making them them a very effective way of reducing inflammation & delivering anti ageing results.

So, always layer your skincare products from the thinnest to the thickest formulation to allow products with smaller molecules to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin, to visibly repair.

This is why I always invest in serums over moisturisers, and while they may be more expensive, a little goes a long way and you get better anti ageing results!

How many products do you layer? Some days I can layer up to 10!
