Oral gut health

As our oral health is linked to our overall health, it’s so important to look after it by brushing and flossing regularly.

If you’re experiencing bleeding gums or oral thrush there’s a high chance that your gut microbiome is also out for whack, as around 45% of bacteria in your mouth is also found in your gut.

Researchers at the university of Bergen in Norway have found that preventing gum disease through regular brushing may also hold off the onset of Alzheimer’s! This is because the bacteria thats largely responsible for gum disease gingivitis ( porphyromonas gingivalis) can move to the brain and once there they produce a protein that destroys nerve cells. This leads to loss of memory and can ultimately lead to Alzheimer’s as it has been found in the brains of those with Alzheimer’s!

So we need to brush and floss regularly to not just keep on top of dental health but also our cognitive health!

You can also take an oral probiotic such as @udoschoiceirl super 5s, which are designed to dissolve in the mouth to work on but just gum disease but oral thrush, mouth ulcers and bleeding gums. They contain the strain lactobacillus salivarius which is the particular strain for probiotics.

Other research also links oral health directly to heart health, as the bad bacteria can travel to the heart increasing the risk of cardiac infections.

In light of this we can expect to see launches of bacteria balancing mouthwashes and mouth microbiome friendly toothpastes such as @happiers

Do you floss regularly? After discovering this it has made me more religious about flossing now!
