Skincare acids simplified!

1) EXFOLIATING ACIDS:

WHICH exfoliating acid you need depends on your SKIN TYPE & CONCERN.

Exfoliating acids remove the top dead skin layers revealing younger more radiant skin.

Glycolic acid is best suited to normal skin, lactic acid works best for dry skin, salicylic acid is the one for oily, congested skin, azaliac works on redness & rosacea, malic is best for pigmentation, mandelic is ideal for sensitive skin & pha suits all skin types.

They should not be used together, unless on different areas of the face or if they’re in a specific skincare formulation eg @holosskincare aha cleanser/ masque

They’re safe to use with hydrating acids but not with treatment acids, unless in a specific formulation eg @alphahskincare midnight reboot.

2) TREATMENT ACIDS:

Retinoic acid, more commonly known as retinol, is the holy grail treatment acid for erasing lines, wrinkles, pores & scars. It can irritate though, so start low & go slow & see how your skin tolerates it! It can be used by everyone over the age of 25 unless you’re pregnant or breastfeeding.

L- ascorbic acid, more commonly known as Vitamin C, is the treatment acid you need if you want to erase pigmentation, brighten dark circles & generally improve your skins radiance & overall tone.

Treatment acids should not be used at the same time, unless in a specific formulation. Use retinol PM & vitamin C AM.

They can be used with hydrating acids but not with exfoliating acids, again unless in a specific formulation.

3) HYDRATING ACIDS:

These should be used by everyone, no matter what age or skin type as all skin needs hydration.

Hyaluronic acid, is the holy grail of hydrating acids, plumping up those lines & wrinkles!

Polyglutamic acid is a newer hydrating acid on the block & is FOUR times more hydrating than hyaluronic acid!

Use both together for the best hydrating results both on the surface & deep down in the skin.

Hydrating acids are suitable for use with both exfoliating & treatment acids.

Using an SPF is vital no matter what type of skincare acid you use or you’ll undo all their work as UV rays cause 90% of premature ageing!
