Winter skin saviours.

At this time of year, due to central heating drawing moisture from the skin & changing temperatures, a lot of us can suffer from dry & irritated skin.

There are many ways to prevent this, the age old solution being to drink more water, but lowering the thermostat to at least 20 degrees & avoiding marathon bath/shower sessions can also minimise the impact on the skin.

Hydrating mists are the most effective way to add water into our skin as they they have the right size of water molecules to enter our skin. I’m currently loving @clarinsireland & @codexbeauty

It’s also important to know which hydrators will work best for your skin type.

ALL SKIN TYPES - hyaluronic acid, polyglutamic acid, glycerin & vitamin E unless you’ve very sensitive or acne prone skin. @ceraveuki moisturisers have hyaluronic acid, glycerin & ceramides.

DRY SKIN TYPES- ceramides are your best friend here! @holosskincare is my favourite & I know lots of you love it too!

PHA’s ( polyhydroxy acids) are also excellent at deeply hydrating skin as well as reducing inflammation. I love @theinkeylist & @neostrataire PHA & I’m hearing great things about @indeedlabs new one so that’s next on my list to try!

Other humectants such as urea (found in @relife_ireland products) and lactic acid will also attract water to the skin to boost hydration just like hyaluronic acid does.

Occlusive (top layer) ingredients such as lanolin, squalane or petroleum will create a seal to reduce water loss.

Applying moisturiser while the skin is still damp will also help, as the matrix is open, so ingredients can penetrate better, as will steering clear of known irritants, fragrance being one of the worst offenders.

Using unscented shower gels & avoiding foaming products that contain sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) is also important to avoid further irritation @biodermaie shower oil is ideal here.

Diet is also important & omegas are essential to hydrate the skin from the inside out, either through foods such as oily fish, nuts & seeds or in supplement form such as my favourite @pharmanord_ireland I haven’t had to use a body moisturiser since taking these as my skin is so soft & smooth! As always sally10 gets you 10% off.
